Academic Foundations

Elpis Academy’s various preview courses are among our most popular classes.  Preview courses are designed to give eager students a peek at the type of material that they will encounter during the next school year.  Our curriculum is based on that of the Ontario Ministry of Education and reflects the various themes and texts that high school students will expect to see.  Even if a student is not planning to take an English/math/science/French course until the second semester or has already completed his or her requirements for these subjects, our preview courses are a wonderful way to continue studying during the summer and to hone the skills that are needed in the academic and business arenas.

When students enroll in one of our Academic Foundation programs, they are first assessed in terms of current ability in each subject area with special emphasis placed on their communication skills.  Each class is focused on making sure that each student is up-to-date in terms of the skills and concepts that they should know prior to entering their next grade level in day school.  Numerous and varied quizzes, assignments, and handouts are given as part of the evaluation process.  Each student is expected to maintain a minimum average in order to stay in the class.
